Some Tunes from Our Alumni for Yom Kippur

Here is a melody I composed for the piyut (liturgical poem) "Ya'aleh" which is chanted/prayed on Yom Kippur after Kol Nidre/ma'ariv — it's based on the alphabet in reverse.  Please email me if you'd like the sheet music and lyrics.  Click here to listen.

Shir Yaakov Feit, WGF Fellow (Class 28) is a singer, composer, designer, producer, teacher and dad.  He engages Jewish, multi-faith and non-affiliated people around the world, building spiritual communities, facilitating and inspiring communal music and helping people connect with their inner wisdom and truth.  He works in formal and informal educational settings as a spiritual leader, teacher and musician.  In 2014, Shir started Kol Hai: Hudson Valley Jewish Renewal, an intentional community in New York's Hudson Valley.  Shir Yaakov has recorded and released four albums of original music and co-founded and performs with The Darshan Project.  He served as Creative and Music Director of Romemu, New York City’s largest Renewal synagogue; Director of Engagement at ALEPH: Alliance for Jewish Renewal; ritual consultant for Eden Village Camp; visiting faculty at AJR-NY, the Institute for Jewish Spirituality and JTS; a member of the Zen Peacemaker Order; and a Rabbinic Student in the ALEPH Ordination Program.  You can listen to more here www.shiryaakov.com; he can be reached at shiryaakov@aleph-ordination.org.

Angela Warnick Buchdahl, WGF Alum (Class 8) is the Senior Cantor of Central Synagogue in New York City.  She was invested as a cantor in 1999 and also ordained as a rabbi in 2001 from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.  She is the first Asian American to be ordained as cantor or rabbi in North America.  She earned her B.A. in Religious Studies from Yale University, where she was active in religious life on campus and performed frequently with her a capella group.  Angela also serves on the Board of the Multiracial Jewish Network and regularly teaches and writes on the topic of diversity within the Jewish community.
