WSL Alum Dr. Orly Weinstein (2019), a specialist in ophthalmology and a specialist in health administration, is the Director of the Division of Government Medical Centers in the Ministry of Health. The Division of Government Medical Centers deals with and focuses on the management of government hospital centers: general, psychiatric and geriatric. The establishment of the Division in 2015 was intended, first and foremost, to strengthen and develop the medical center system, and enable historical structural separation between the roles of the Ministry of Health as a regulator and as the owner of government hospitals.
Dr. Weinstein also serves as senior faculty member at Ben Gurion University, and is a recipient of the Ministry of Health Director General’s prize in medical logistics.
She has served in the past in additional roles: The deputy director of Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva, the head of the Risk Management Unit at Soroka, medical advisor to the Director General of the Ministry of Health, commanding officer of the Southern Medical Installation in the IDF, chairperson of the specialization committee at Ben Gurion University, committee member representing the Ministry of Health on the subject of computerization of medical records.
