New York, NY

Ari L. Monts (they/them/theirs) is an independent scholar, artist, and queer liturgist based in Sunnyside, NY. In Ari’s professional and personal pursuits, they are building the groundwork for the Jewish future to reflect and celebrate its multi-racial and multicultural identity. They were a 2021 ALEPH Kesher Fellow, and are part of Cohort 5 of SVARA’s Teaching Kollel. Ari currently serves as the Board President of Ammud, the premiere Jewish organization that provides Jewish education for Jews of Color. They’ve had their writing featured on a variety of queer and feminist websites, and their work looks at participatory performance rituals’ role in community formation. As Lab/Shul’s Programs and Communications Manager, they are exploring the joys of intergenerational gatherings, playing rigorously with liturgy, and laughing a lot!
