Rabbi Herbert A. Friedman, (1918- 2008) served as the executive chairman of the national United Jewish Appeal for more than 20 years, and co-founded the Wexner Heritage Foundation in 1985 with Leslie Wexner, chairman of Limited Brands. Rabbi Friedman served as the Foundation’s president for a decade. He was an eminent authority on Jewish overseas needs and on Israel’s birth, growth and development. His contributions to Jewish life were numerous, and ranged from actively participating in the Haganah and its Aliyah Bet mission to creating the Israel Education Fund.

Rabbi Friedman was passionate, courageous and determined. He put adult Jewish learning on the Jewish map once and for all, and because of Herb we will forever couple Jewish learning and Jewish leadership.
