Major-General (Res.) Amos Yadlin, who heads Israel’s Institute for National Security Studies and is an alum of the Wexner Israel Fellowship Program (Class 5) will speak on a conference call open to the WexNetwork. He’ll discuss two of the major issues facing Israel’s strategic thinkers and decision makers: the crises with Iran and with the Palestinians.     

Major-General Yadlin will be introduced by Deb Housen-Couriel, Director of the Wexner Israel Fellowship. Questions from participants will be welcome following his initial presentation.

Amos Yadlin has been the Director of Tel Aviv University’s Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), the leading strategic think tank in Israel, since November 2011. He served for more than 40 years in the Israel Defense Forces, nine as a member of the IDF General Staff.  From 2006-2010, Maj. Gen. (res.) Yadlin served as the IDF’s Chief of Defense Intelligence. From 2004-2006, he served as the IDF attaché to the United States. In February 2002, he earned the rank of major general and was named commander of the IDF Military Colleges and the National Defense College. He is a former deputy commander of the Israel Air Force, and has commanded two fighter squadrons and two airbases, as well as serving as head of the IAF Planning Department (1990-1993). He participated in the Yom Kippur War (1973), Operation Peace for Galilee (1982) and Operation Tamuz – the destruction of the Osirak nuclear reactor in Iraq (1981). Yadlin holds a B.A. in economics and business administration from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (1985) and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University (1994), as a Wexner Israel Fellow (Class 5).

 

Maj. Gen. (Res.) Yadlin has published articles in Israeli and leading international journals, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, Foreign Policy and the The Wall Street Journal.  His recent INSS publications include, among others, “Regime Stability in the Middle East: An Analytical Model to Assess the Possibility of Regime Change” (2013), “The Geneva Agreement: Neither a ‘Historic Agreement’ nor a ‘Historic Failure’ ” (2013), and “If Attacked, How Would Iran Respond?” (2013).
